There is no better time than right now to look into improving things when it comes to your health and your skin. If your lifestyle has taken a toll on you leaving you looking tired and older overnight you're not alone! You might be looking for a couple new ways to look fresher. I’m going to give you a few simple tips on the best anti-aging essential oils that you can add to your skincare routine, so your skin can benefit from their active ingredients and start glowing!
Why essential oils
When it comes to natural skincare, essential oils play an important role beyond adding a pleasant scent. Essential oils are potent plant extracts and when used carefully and correctly can have amazing anti-aging benefits for your skin and your overall well being. This is because when you use essential oils topically, you also get the wonderful therapeutic benefits of the oils via inhalation. They have the power to rejuvenate your skin but also make you feel relaxed and grounded. I want to highlight three of the best anti-aging essential oils for the skin. This essential oils trio is found in many natural skincare products, are easily available for you to purchase separately and be added to a recipe to make a DIY facial oil. Read on for all the tips on how to use the best anti-aging essential oils on your skin.
Best anti-aging essential oils
Frankincense Essential Oil
Frankincense essential oil is revered and adored for its ability to rejuvenate and beautify the skin. It has been used since antiquity in salves for religious ceremonies intended to soothe the skin. In stories from the bible, frankincense incense symbolizes a god/goddess–how fitting for us! Frankincense has a very earthy, grounding scent with pine and citrus notes along with a slight spicy undertone. Frankincense promotes feelings of satisfaction, peace, relaxation, and also overall wellness. In terms of anti-aging properties, frankincense can reduce the appearance of blemishes, fine lines and wrinkles. It may help increase skin elasticity (stop wrinkles from happening in the first place!), and overall improve your skin's health. I see a visible difference in radiance and tone when I add frankincense essential oil to my night skincare routine. Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender is notably one of the most versatile essential oils out there while also having a gentle enough scent to please almost everyone. It blends wonderfully with other essential oils, such as lemon, bergamot, basil, to suit many different situations. Lavender is one of the best anti-aging essential oils because of its antioxidant and healing properties. It will help repair past damage to your skin reducing the effects of toxins and UV light that can cause aging. Lavender essential oil offers other skincare benefits like soothing skin conditions like eczema and acne, wounds from burns and bug bites. I love adding a few drops of lavender to my children’s bath at night, or a few drops on my pillow after a particularly stressful day. Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
This essential oil is a floral, fruity and rich smelling essential oil that is widely used in many products from food to skincare. Ylang ylang extra is the most potent essential oil derived from the ylang ylang flower. You might be familiar with it as it's the top note in the iconic Chanel Number Five. Ylang Ylang helps to relieve tension and promotes a positive outlook, something I think is especially important these days. Native to forests in southeast Asia, ylang ylang is a purifier, balancer and a powerful antioxidant. These three properties will help cleanse your skin, regulate oil production and help repair and prevent damage. You have to like floral scents to like ylang ylang otherwise stick to the more earthy, grounding scent of frankincense. DIY Facial Oil
It's easy to blend your own facial oil. There are many products with essential oils out there. However, the allure of making your own customized oil is too great to pass up.
You will need a 1oz glass bottle with a dropper. A colored bottle (amber or blue) is preferred to keep out light. For 1oz carrier oil you will need 10 drops of essential oil. You can create a combination that works best for you. Some ideas to try are 3+3+4 or 5+3+2 of your favorite essential oils.
Next, you will need to choose a carrier oil such as
- Rosehip Seed oil
- Jojoba oil
- Argan oil
- Avocado oil
How to mix your DIY oil
Add your carrier oil to your bottle first and then add your choice of essential oils. Close the lid and gently mix before storing in a cool dark spot. You can use this oil for oil cleansing, massaging the face or as a last step in your skin routine. Just take a few drops into your palm, rub together to warm up the product, and gently press into your skin and do a facial massage.
